Galleria Borghese is one of the most important museum in the city. Its right in the centre, in the wonderful Villa Borghese, a wonderful park, an oasis of peace. The villa and the museum were built by order of the cardinal Scipione Borghese, in the first years of the 17th century. Since those times the museum housed or commissioned the work of the greatest artist around, building one of the greatest art collection in Europe.
In Galleria Borghese you’ll find sculptures of Bernini and Canova, paintings of Raffaello, Tiziano and Caravaggio that will charm you with their beauty. This is the greatest and biggest collection of Bernini’s work, and it includes pieces like Ratto di Prosperpina, Apollo e Dafne, Paolina Borghese.
The museum also houses famous paintings of Caravaggio like Ragazzo con canestro di frutta, Davide e la testa di Golia, Madonna dei Palafrenieri, San Girolamo. Book your visit and don’t miss your chance to admire these art masterpieces.
Musei Capitolini, the first public museum in the world
“Art for everyone” is the concept that inspires all museum, the idea to bring art to everyone. It’s this concept that, in the year 1471, led pope Paolo Sisto to give the city of Rome a collection of antique bronze statues, starting a collection that grew across the centuries. In the year 1734 pope Clemente XII decided to open the museum to everyone, transforming Musei Capitolini in the first public museum in the world.
They are located in two buildings in Piazza del Campidoglio, Palazzo Nuovo and Palazzo dei Conservatori: in the first one you’ll find famous sculptures like Venus Capitolina and Discobolo di Mirone, in the other the masterpieces of Tiziano, Rubens, Tintoretto and Caravaggio. These are just a fraction of the art you may discover and admire during your visit to Musei Capitolini, a must-see in Rome.
